Why BAGGO

No vague claims.

You do not need to be a leather expert to know what you are buying. Where it is made, how it is tanned, what it is made of. All of it, laid out. Decide for yourself.

The process

01 Made in Italy

Yes, actually made in Italy. No shortcuts. We work with certified Italian workshops, and every bag carries a Made in Italy label sewn into the lining, as US import law requires.

02 Tanning

Tanning turns raw hide into leather you can wear. We use chrome tanning: soft, flexible, resistant to moisture and fading. It is what most Italian tanneries use today.

Vegetable tanning gets called more natural. It is also slower, stiffer, and reacts harder to water and sun. For a bag you carry every day, chrome wins.

The materials

Hand-drawn cross-section of a leather hide showing its layers

Full grain vs. the rest

Full grain
The strongest cut. Grain untouched, fibers intact. Ages into a rich patina. What we use.
Top grain
Sanded to hide flaws. Durable, but less breathable and shorter-lived.
"Genuine leather"
Real, but from the lower layers. More processed, less durable, no patina.

Full grain is the gold standard.

Full grain

Highest-quality part of the hide. Not sanded.

Pebbled

Full grain with a raised texture. Hides scratches, holds its shape.

Metallic leather

Full grain base, foil finish. Treated so it does not crack or peel.

Suede

Inner side of the hide. Velvety. Needs a bit more care.

Woven suede

Hand-woven texture. Soft, with more structure.

Metallic suede

Velvet meets metal. Delicate look, tough build.

Why no Saffiano

Saffiano is a pattern pressed onto leather. Scratch-resistant, sure. But it never develops a patina. We stick to full-grain calfskin and suede because they age, and they last.

Made to be used.

Treated to resist moisture and fading, so rain and humidity are fine. You do not need to baby it. A little care goes a long way:

  • Do not soak it.
  • Wet? Let it air dry. Never near heat.
  • Neutral leather cream now and then. No oils, no dyes.
  • Store it in a soft cloth bag to avoid scuffs.
